According to my sources (fellow AMG member Leon St. Giovanni, who was in attendance), Harvey "is a legit superstar". The aura around him is definitely Doc Gooden like in 1984-86. Incredible chants and ovations.
However, I don't want to talk too much about Harvey tonight. I also don't want to talk about David Wright pulling his hamstring in the 8th inning tonight stealing 2nd base and having to find out through the MLB At-Bat app and Twitter. (Credit Matt Hack for breaking my heart on Twitter with the heads up and tweet later about me not being glued to the Mets Twitter. Popped me.) It depresses me.
I want to get angry. And who can I get angry at? Home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez! My goodness, he called a stinker of a game behind the plate! Although he is an MLB umpire with years of experience and I once umpired games for the South River Recreation baseball league for little kids, I COULD HAVE MADE THOSE CALLS TONIGHT!!!
First, the hit-by-pitch on Freddy Galvis from the Dark Knight in the 3rd DID NOT HIT HIM! I do not know what angle Gary, Keith, and Ron were looking at on SNY, but from what I saw, Galvis did not get hit by the pitch. Plus, apparently, you couldn't challenge the play, because Harvey went back to the rubber too soon prior to the replay attempt. Then, the umps check it for their own review for some reason, and state inconclusive evidence. It was absolutely ludicrous.

Lastly, the Dude's run in the bottom of the 5th should not have even been allowed to have been challenged. Duda's back foot blatantly hit home plate, but Mr. Marquez couldn't get that 100% right? GOOD GRIEF! KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE ENTIRE RUN SCORING PROCESS!!! YOU'RE THE HOME PLATE UMPIRE!!!!
I'm sorry if I throwing all of the heat on Alfonso Marquez, as I am sure he had an off day. Everyone is allowed to. But there were just those 3 plays that were absolutely asinine and brutal to deal with as a fan watching the game. Man, it sucked tonight, even with a victory. At least. Mr. Marquez ISN'T at Angel Hernandez levels yet. He's not even close.
So much happened tonight within the realm of one game. Let's hope the talent, the drama, and the wins keep coming within that realm. Let's go Mets!
