JL came to the United States in 1968. Four years later, Chico, who was always a big fan of wrestling growing up, started training in 1972 in Hoboken, NJ under the tutelage of David Oyola and George Japonez-Gonzalez. Making his debut the same year, Chico, billing himself from Brooklyn, NY, started wrestling the Northeast territory. After 4 years of working his way up the circuit, paying his dues, Chico started working for Ringside 41 in 1976, a company that stretched throughout the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Chico, known for his small stature, made the Super Flying Splash off the top rope his coup-de-grace. Chico utilized an early form of Lucha Libre with an American edge to it.
Main rivalries and moments
Throughout his career, Chico was known for facing off with El Tigre Fillipino and Tony Salvege. Chico breathed, ate and slept wrestling and with wrestling Filipino and Salvege up and down the Northeast, he perfected his game and became a well-rounded performer. Ultimately, Chico started to slow down with the wrestling in the late 1990s/early 2000s, however he was very instrumental in helping Dan Maff start in the business. On July 31, 2010, for Jersey Wrestling Elite, Maff and the 52 year old Chico wrestled in the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ at Meltdown. Chico went step-for-step with Maff, however ultimately falling victim to an elevated Boston Crab for a loss. However, at 52 years old, Chico stole the show from the younger wrestlers with his gutsy and gritty performance.
Now residing in Jersey City, NJ, Chico now wrestles semi-regularly on the independent circuit, most notably for East Coast Championship Wrestling and American Championship Entertainment, where Chico almost won the "Chance of a Lifetime" rumble match at Crossroads VII on July 9, 2011. Most notably, Chico is now being managed by Mike Lewis and is now representing the Mike Lewis Enterprise as the "Professor of Old School", which Chico represents on a daily basis within the industry due to his vast knowledge of the sport.
